The secret to passing a bond issue: Start 12 to 18 months early

In the past 18 years, we have helped hundreds of school districts pass bond issues.

We often do a pre-election telephone survey six to nine months before the election to identify what patrons want and what they are willing to pay. This combination of data is usually a slam dunk.

But when the results are subpar, that may not be enough time to right the ship. For this scenario, a 12- to 18-month educational effort is recommended.

Oftentimes, districts suspect their bond efforts might struggle for various reasons, including:
– Negative incidents that left district patrons less than happy.
– It’s been a long time since a bond issue was passed.
– The district may have failed one or more bond issues.
– The district hasn’t recently surveyed their patrons to determine their feelings about the district as a whole.

Conducting a pre-election survey 12 to 18 months out is your best bet to pass a bond issue, if any of these scenarios are in place. And using survey data to augment your facilities study will help you structure and pass your bond issue.

If you are planning a bond issue in 2027 and suspect your chances might be slim, we can help!
